Stars Builders Academy made a strong debut in the NLO1 division, securing a 4-3 victory over Almar FC at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, on Saturday.
The Ijebu Ode-based team earned maximum points on matchday one, thanks to a brace from Toheeb Lasisi and goals from Ayodele Adeloye and Femi Adetula.
Following the match, the Club’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ayodeji Adegbenro, spoke to the media, expressing satisfaction with the win against a more seasoned opponent.
“It was a solid win for us against a more experienced team,” Adegbenro said. “This is our first season in NLO1, and Almar has more experience at this level.”
He added, “We dominated the game, but they capitalized on simple mistakes made by our defenders, which were due to inexperience. Our coaches will work on correcting these errors before our next match.”
When asked about the possibility of achieving a third consecutive promotion, Adegbenro acknowledged the challenge.
“We’ve had back-to-back promotions in the last two seasons to reach this level. Achieving promotion to the NNL might be a big challenge for us right now, as we lack the necessary funding to compete at that level,” he explained. “However, we’ll approach this season one game at a time and see where we stand at the end.”
